Dr. Carsten Nicolaus, MD, Medical Director

Born in Lower Saxony, Dr. Nicolaus studied medicine in Regensburg and received his licence to practise medicine in 1988. Dr. Nicolaus received his doctorate from the Technical University of Munich and the Rechts der Isar hospital in 1989 on the subject “Biological detection of cyclosporin A in serum after general kidney transplantation based on inhibition of interleukin-2 production”. In 1990, he founded a practice for general medicine in Bergheim (near Augsburg). In 2006 he founded BCA-clinic, which is dedicated exclusively to the topic of tick-borne diseases. Dr. Nicolaus has been an active member of the German Borreliosis Society and ILADS for many years. 2012 to 2017 he served on the ILADS Board of directors.

Sigrid Blehle, MD, MBA, Specialist in General Medicine

Ms Blehle studied human medicine in Giessen and received her licence to practise medicine in 1989. In 1995, she successfully completed her training as a specialist in general medicine. Ms Blehle then held various management positions and worked in consulting both within and outside the healthcare sector in Germany. From 2010 to 2011 she successfully completed her studies in health economics, which she completed with a degree in Health Economics (ebs) and an MBA in Health Care Management. In addition to her wealth of medical knowledge, particularly based around rheumatology and autoimmune diseases, she brings with her a substantial amount of management experience. She joined the BCA-clinic team in March 2017.

She is a member of the German Borreliosis Society and ILADS.

Darko Jung, Specialist in Microbiology, Virology and Epidemiology of Infections

Darko Jung is Croatian and has lived and worked in Germany since 2012. After studying medicine at the University of Zagreb, he received his licence to practise medicine in 1979 and acquired his specialist’s licence in 1988. Until his move to Augsburg on 01.10.2015, Dr. Jung worked in Bad Blankenburg (Thuringia) as a doctor in a specialised clinic. Dr. Jung works in his own independent practice within the BCA-clinic.

Claudia Schuhmair, General Practitioner

Mrs. Schuhmair received her licence to practise medicine in 1990 and has worked as a General Practitioner since 1996. She was born in Augsburg, and has specialised in the additional areas of homoeopathy (1996), acupuncture (2006) and traditional Chinese medicine (2004-2006). She has worked as a freelance physician in a private practice within the BCA-clinic.
