Dr. Carsten Nicolaus, MD, Medical Director

Born in Lower Saxony, Dr. Nicolaus studied medicine in Regensburg and received his licence to practise medicine in 1988. Dr. Nicolaus received his doctorate from the Technical University of Munich and the Rechts der Isar hospital in 1989 on the subject “Biological detection of cyclosporin A in serum after general kidney transplantation based on inhibition of interleukin-2 production”. In 1990, he founded a practice for general medicine in Bergheim (near Augsburg). In 2006 he founded BCA-clinic, which is dedicated exclusively to the topic of tick-borne diseases. Dr. Nicolaus has been an active member of the German Borreliosis Society and ILADS for many years. 2012 to 2017 he served on the ILADS Board of directors.

Sigrid Blehle, MD, MBA, Specialist in General Medicine

Ms Blehle studied human medicine in Giessen and received her licence to practise medicine in 1989. In 1995, she successfully completed her training as a specialist in general medicine. Ms Blehle then held various management positions and worked in consulting both within and outside the healthcare sector in Germany. From 2010 to 2011 she successfully completed her studies in health economics, which she completed with a degree in Health Economics (ebs) and an MBA in Health Care Management. In addition to her wealth of medical knowledge, particularly based around rheumatology and autoimmune diseases, she brings with her a substantial amount of management experience. She joined the BCA-clinic team in March 2017.

She is a member of the German Borreliosis Society and ILADS.

Darko Jung, Specialist in Microbiology, Virology and Epidemiology of Infections

Darko Jung is Croatian and has lived and worked in Germany since 2012. After studying medicine at the University of Zagreb, he received his licence to practise medicine in 1979 and acquired his specialist’s licence in 1988. Until his move to Augsburg on 01.10.2015, Dr. Jung worked in Bad Blankenburg (Thuringia) as a doctor in a specialised clinic. Dr. Jung works in his own independent practice within the BCA-clinic.

Dr. Med. Terézia Heim, Specialist in General Medicine, Specialist in Paediatrics and Children

Miss Dr. Heim studied medicine at the Medical University of Pécs in Hungary. After receiving her license to practice medicine, Dr. Heim started working in paediatrics. The acquired knowledge in this field enabled her to deputise in several paediatrician practices in Hungary through the central paediatric ambulance of the city of Pécs. With the increasing occurrence of tick-borne diseases in Hungary and Dr Heins interest in this field, Dr Hein has completed further specialised training and specific courses in the treatment of tick borne diseases and co -infections. Based on her knowledge and experience in paediatrics and adolescent medicine, Dr Heim is responsible for the treatment and therapy of children and young patients in the BCA-clinic.

Josef Hollenhorst, Specialist in Anaesthesiology,  Special Pain Therapy, Nutritional Medicine, Emergency Medicine

Mr Hollenhorst trained as a medical specialist until 1997 before starting to work at the Hanover Medical School (MHH) as a specialist in anaesthesiology and a senior functional physician. From 2001 until 2017, he worked as a senior physician in various clinical areas such as intensive care, pain therapy and emergency admission. In 2011, Mr Hollenhorst started developing his interest in orthomolecular-functional medicine and acquired a qualification in nutritional medicine and special pain therapy. Mr Hollenhorst joined the BCA-clinic medical team in October 2019 and uses his knowledge and experience to research, study and treat the severe neuropathic pain that can be caused by Lyme disease and its co-infections.
