Borrelia miyamotoi are spirochetes that cause “tick relapse fever”. They were first isolated from Japanese ticks in 1995. In the meantime, these pathogens have been isolated from ticks in southern Germany. The patients usually have fever, chills and headaches. Unlike infection with Borrelia burdorferi, Borrelia afzelii or Borrelia garinii, a skin rash is unusual.
